JOHN MUMFORD’S ALA KART

On rare occasions we at Brizio’s are given the task of restoring a hotrod or custom of historical significance, possibly none more recognizable than the Ala Kart. Built by George Barris, Richard Peters and Blackie Gegian in 1957, the Ala Kart won the coveted AMBR trophy at the Oakland Roadster Show twice, in ’58 and ’59 consecutively. AMT bought the truck shortly thereafter and boosted its fame by making it into one of the best-selling model car kits of all time. The crew at Brizio’s restored the Ala Kart for owner John Mumford and debuted it at the 2008 Grand National Roadster Show where it was finally re-united with Blackie, Barris and original owner Richard Peters.
